How to Stay Fit on Vacation: Simple CrossFit Travel Workouts
Planning a trip but don’t want to lose your fitness momentum? We get it. At CrossFit Sweat Shop in Walnut Creek, we hear this all the time: you’re headed on vacation, and suddenly the idea of working out feels overwhelming or unrealistic. The good news? It doesn’t have to be.
Here’s how to keep moving while still enjoying your trip, with easy-to-follow CrossFit travel workouts and mindset tips from our coaches.
1. Use What You Have
Whether you’re at a hotel, Airbnb, or campsite, there’s always a way to stay active.
- Hotel gyms: If there’s a rack of dumbbells (even up to just 35 lbs), you’re set.
- Camping or road-tripping? Pack light with a kettlebell, sandbag, or even just a jump rope.
The key? Keep it simple. Your workouts don’t need to be fancy to be effective.
2. Keep It Short & Simple
Vacation workouts should complement your trip—not take over your schedule. Aim for:
- 5-minute warm-up
- 20-minute workout
Plan a few go-to workouts based on the equipment available. Having a plan removes the guesswork and helps you stay consistent.
3. Don’t Overthink Your Workout
Worried about missing equipment? Don’t be. Swap movements as needed:
- No pull-up bar? Do dumbbell rows.
- No cardio machine? Go for a run or grab a jump rope.
- No barbell? Use dumbbells or switch to bodyweight movements.
At CrossFit Sweat Shop, we post daily Hotel/Travel workouts on Beyond the Whiteboard that require minimal or no equipment. The goal is simple: just keep moving.
4. Drop In Somewhere New
If you’re away for longer and missing the barbell, drop in at a local CrossFit gym. Most are super welcoming to visitors, and dropping into a new gym can offer:
- Fresh coaching cues
- New warm-up drills
- A unique training environment
Our coaches have worked out everywhere from open-air gyms in Kauai to snow-covered gyms in Truckee—and every time, it’s an experience worth having.

Why Vacation Workouts Matter
One week off? No problem. But skip two or three weeks, and you might feel it—especially in your strength work. Beyond physical benefits, many of us simply feel better after a workout. It clears your head, boosts your mood, and lets you enjoy your vacation more.
