Competing after the Open
As we approach the halfway point of the 2018 CrossFit Open, I can see the competitive fire being lit inside a lot of you guys! First and foremost, I hope you all are having fun getting the opportunity to test your fitness with whatever Dave Castro throws at us. Secondly, I look forward to seeing the renewed motivation some of you will have in continuing to improve your overall health and fitness. The open is a good way to experience the atmosphere of competing, and for some of you guys, that’s enough! But if you’re looking for a bit more, the spring and summer time are usually full of fun local competitions!
Local competitions are always fun because it still gives people a chance to compete outside of the open, and it’s always cool to see such a huge Sweat Shop crew cheering each other on! Here are a few TEAM competitions coming up…
The Bat Cave Games 2018 – March 31, 2018. Fresh off the open! I know a few fellas at the gym have done this competition back in the day. Check in with Nabil, JB, CJ, and PT to see how it was run! This time around, the Bat Cave Games will be a team competition (guy/guy or girl/girl), whereas in the past it’s been an individual one. Located in Sacramento, it’s a bit of a drive. Although the drive might be far, I’ve done the Iron Mile competition up there before, and the day is always made better when a solid crew comes up to support! Krush Burger is a MUST post-competition!
West Cost Championships – Mixed Pairs Functional Fitness Competition – April 14th, 2018. This one is located at the Santa Clara Convention Center. A couple years back, DJ and I did a competition at this venue. JB, Rikus, Mike Little, and Dana also did a competition with us at this venue as well. Needless to say, it’s a pretty cool spot! Anyway, I mention this one because there aren’t too many guy/girl competitions out there! Guy/girl competitions are always fun as it always brings in a new twist to the playing field. There are 3 levels of experience available to sign up for, so don’t be shy!
Contra Costa Throwdown 2018 – June 10th, 2018. I did this competition last year, and I know quite a few of you Sweat Shoppers have done it in the past as well. We seem to have a good showing of teams from the gym participate in this one, which means there’s usually a huge crowd that comes out to support! This is a guy/guy or girl/girl competition, and it’s open to all levels! I’d say if you want to get your first competition in, this would be a good one to get your feet wet with! Some sweat shoppers that have done this in past include: JB, Chris Grames, PT, Dragon, Livi, Danielle, Britney, Carolyn, Braydan, Rikus, Cally, DJ, Cole, and myself. If I forgot you, I apologize! It just goes to show you how we always show out at this one! Feel free to get more insight from anyone that I mentioned above! It would be cool to have another solid crew represent!
Those are just a few competitions that stuck out to me and wanted to share with all of you! There are of course more in the area and there are opportunities for individual comps as well, which you can check out here. Go ahead and talk amongst yourselves and see if we can represent this spring/summer!
