Sweat Shop Takes First at Brethren Throwdown

While we had 5 teams competing locally at the Contra Costa Throwdown in Concord (stay tuned for a recap on that later this week), Helen and I competed at an individual competition at Brethren CrossFit in Morgan Hill this weekend.  It was a really fun competition that among other things included a trail run and a workout that involved climbing over an 8-foot wall!  With Helen making it to the finals (scores reset, winner takes all!) she got to go head-to-head in a workout with heavy deadlifts, GHD situps, and rope climbs on a significantly higher rope than we have at the Sweat Shop!  When the dust had settled Helen finished first overall in the women’s Masters category, (taking home $500 cash prize) and I finished 14th in the men’s Rx’d category. In the current trend of local CrossFit competitions going for bigger venues with “fancier” workouts and exercises, this competition, with it’s simple yet effective workouts, and overwhelmingly positive and supportive competitors and spectators, reminded me of old school CrossFit…easily the most fun I’ve  had at a competition in a long time!

Congrats to you both! Too bad both comps were on the same day. Would have loved to see you and Helen compete. It’s always fun to see the experienced competitors, especially our coaches!!

Congrats Helen! She’s always putting in extra work so its good to see its all paying off for her. Great to hear that the comp was simple yet fun. I think old school CrossFit style workouts are some of the best. Congrats Nabil, way to show the young guns how its done.
