Go Ahead. Challenge Yourself!

Someone told me that it’s good to challenge yourself. So I did. It’s no secret by now, but I’ve been on a golfing binge over the past few months. Still pretty awful, but I love getting out there and trying to improve my new craft. It’s been great! Instead of coming into the gym to workout, I’ll go out to the driving range or hit up the golf course with some buddies…crazy right?! Golf is still for sure out of my comfort zone, it’s been quite the emotional roller coaster but nonetheless it gets me outside and moving! Score! And let me tell you, it’s been amazingly refreshing to challenge myself in a different way outside of the gym. Talk about a mental game…

So with this post, I wanted to take a moment to challenge you guys to find a new activity outside of the gym. I know CrossFit is a challenge in itself, but you guys put in so much work and effort into improving your fitness, why not put it to some use! By putting in the time and effort coming to the gym, you guys have opened up so much more outside of it! So let’s use the tools you’ve built and get out there.Find something that challenges you physically, mentally, or both! There’s so many different activities out there, you really just have to be open and willing to break out of your comfort zone and try them. Success or even through failure, still important to try! One of the biggest things that I’ve noticed is that I surprisingly don’t feel guilty about deciding to go golf last minute instead of coming to the gym and working out. Find something that you want to improve upon just as much as your fitness level. In a sense, finding a new activity is a way to help balance everything out. New challenges are an opportunity to grow in other aspects of life, and in the end all benefit each other in one way are another. For me, because I don’t come into the gym as much as I used to because I’m out hitting golf balls, leaves me with a refreshed/excited attitude when I do come in to coach or workout with all of you!

Like I mentioned above, there’s so many opportunities out there to challenge yourself it doesn’t have to be golf. Looking for an adrenaline/physical challenge? With the winter coming up try to get up to the snow and take some skiing/snowboarding lessons. What about ice skating?! During the summer you can get to a lake and maybe try some wake surfing/boarding. Learn to swim if you never got the chance to in the past! Spartan races, 5k runs, 10k runs, and cycling are legit challenges also. Let’s throw out going to the shooting range, mountain biking, and hiking while we’re at it. Art races cars on the side for crying out loud, talk to him about the rush he gets going 0mph – 100mph…literally! Melia learned how to ride a motorcycle awhile back, let’s go! Looking for a mental challenge. Puzzles! (please don’t bring this up to me if you know about my puzzle debacle, but I can admit it was a failure haha) Fishing, meditating, cooking, and reading are great ways to stimulate the mind. There’s always some challenge out there waiting to be tackled, find one and I’m sure you won’t regret it! Get out there and play around a little bit! 🙂

Really Like this post. I think its important to have other activities outside of the gym that provide you with a challenge. I recently picked up DJing. While its not a physical challenge, it definitely takes a lot of active effort to get better at. Good Read!
