Featured Athlete: Andrew

 

Today we’re featuring another man of mystery from the Sweat Shop.  You’re most likely to catch Andrew in the evenings during the week.  If you chat with him you’ll immediately realize he is a geniune and humble person… just don’t ask what he does for a living.  His exercise log is a small black book that on the cover reads, “People to Kill”, and when we recently did the hero workout Murph on Memorial Day, Andrew did the workout wearing a legitimate bullet proof vest.  I’m not certain, but he may be a mercenary.  Nonetheless, he’s a pleasure to coach, workout alongside, and he has a stupid good split jerk when is shoulder is not bugging him!  Read more about Andrew below.

Q.  How long have you been doing CrossFit?

A. 5 or 6 years off and on

Q.  What were you doing for exercise before CrossFit?

A. Bro sesh at LA Fitness, 24hr or the gym at work and playing basketball every once and a while

Q.  How did you begin training at CrossFit Sweat Shop?

A.  When I moved back to the Bay Area from Los Angeles about 4 years ago I was shopping around at the CrossFit gyms throughout Walnut Creek, Concord and San Ramon. I dropped in at Sweatshop, felt comfortable there and became a member. Unfortunately my work schedule and work place changed so I had to stop going. A couple years later my schedule changed again and now I’m back and couldn’t be happier.

Q.  What has been the most significant benefit or change since you’ve been a member of the Sweat Shop?

A.  I am competitive and there are a lot of very good athletes at sweatshop. The other members are always pushing me to be better along with the coaches who are always pushing me and giving me tips on how to improve.

 

Q.  What is your favorite exercise or workout?

A.  Anything with bar muscle ups, I feel like they are the one gymnastics movement I am actually proficient at.

 

Q.  What is your least favorite exercise or workout?

A.  Kettle bell swings!!!  They break me down during a workout and make it hard to keep moving.

 

Q.  What is your favorite cheat meal/snack?

A.  Cheat meal??? I would have to on some kind of diet to have to cheat. Hahaha
But I love Pizza and a good ice cream sandwich from Cream.  My favorite snack is belvita crackers.

 

Q.  What do you enjoy most about training at CrossFit Sweat Shop?

A.  It’s hard to say who I enjoy more… the other athletes that I see there every day or the coaches.  Hmmmmm… haha

Q.  Now that you’ve been doing CrossFit, what’s one thing you could never see yourself doing again?  (workout, nutrition, lifestyle, etc.)

A.  I will never go back to a “globo gym” and be caught doing chest and tri’s or back and bi’s.

Q.  What is your most sought after exercise goal?

A.  I have a lot of goals to achieve still… I’d like improve on all my Olympic lifts(in terms of weight) and be able to do 10 strict muscle ups.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing outside of CrossFit?

A.  Playing any sport, but football and basketball are number 1 and 2.

Q.  What is something you have recently purchased for less than $100 (or acquired for free) that you thoroughly enjoy and would recommend to others?

A.   I purchased one of those muscle roller sticks or massage roller stick. Not sure what it’s called but I love it. It’s good for on the go people like me.

Q.  What advice would you give your 25 year old self?

A.  Step your game up, be more observant of your fitness, take chances and rage!
